The Flag Stitch combines just the Knit & Purl stitches to produce a beautiful layered, textured effect.
The Flag Stitch is excellent for adding some relief, and texture to large projects, such as cardigans or blankets.
Ready to get going, then let’s head to the instructions…
Instructions
Cast on multiples of seven stitches for your project.
Start the first row is entirely down in a seven stitch repeating pattern of knitting one, then purling six. Keep repeating this until you reach the end of the row.
Start out on the second row, purl one, then knit five. The seventh stitch starts a seven stitch repeating pattern (unless you are only doing one multiple, then skip the repeat) of purling two, then knitting five. Keep repeating this pattern until you reach the last stitch and knit one.
The third row begins by knitting one, then again enter a seven stitch repeating pattern of purling four, then knitting three. Keep repeating this until the last six stitches and purl four, then knit two.
Begin the fourth row by purling three, then knitting three. Once you’ve done this enter a seven stitch repeating pattern of purling four, then knitting three. Keep repeating this until you reach the last stitch, and purl it.
The fifth row starts by knitting one, then entering another seven stitch repeating pattern of purling two, then knitting five. Again, keep repeating this pattern until you reach the last six stitches, and purl two, then knit four.
The sixth and last row starts by purling five, then knitting one. Then start a seven stitch repeating pattern of purling six, then knitting one. Continue this, until your last stitch and purl it.
Once you have completed row six, continue repeating rows one till six until you have the desired size.
