The Plaited Cable Stitch
Description
The Plaited Cable Stitch produces a very wide pattern Cable effect where a bold accent is desired.
The wide plaited effect is created by a series of cable six forward and cable six back repeats on a garter stitch background. The stitch works well on wide panels in conjunction with other Aran patterns.
Time for some instructions.
Instructions
Cast on any multiple of twenty-three plus five stitches for your project.
Begin the first row by purling five then knitting eighteen stitches, keep repeating this along the row until the last five stitches and purl them.
For the second row (and all wrong side rows), repeat a knit five, purl eighteen pattern until you reach the last five stitches and knit all five.
The third row starts by purling five then working three cable six back one after the other. For each of the cable six back, slip three stitches onto your cable needle and hold them to the back, knit three from your left-hand needle then knit the three from your cable needle. Keep repeating the above pattern until you reach the last five stitches and purl them.
For the fifth row repeat the first. The seventh and last row starts by purling five, then knitting three before working two back to back cable six forwards, then knitting three again. The cable six backs should be worked by slipping three stitches onto your cable needle and holding them to the front, knitting three from your left-hand needle, and then knitting the remaining three from your left-hand needle. Keep working this pattern across the row until the last five stitches and purl them.
Once you have completed row twenty, continue repeating rows 1-7 until you have the desired size.
