The Ridge Stitch


The Ridge Stitch produces horizontal ridges that stand out in strong relief against a stockinette stitch background.

Cast on any multiple of two stitches for your project.

Starting out, the first row consist entirely of knit stitches. When you turn to the wrong side for row two, we are now going knit two together right across the row.

For the third row, we are going to knit into the front and then the back of every stitch along the row. The last row, row four, you are going to purl every stitch.

Once you have completed row four, continue repeating rows 1-4 until you have the desired size.

Difficulty Level:

Intermediate Knitting Stitch

Cast on:

Cast on any multiple of 2 stitches.
4 row pattern repeat.

k into front and back

Knit 2 together
Knit into the front and back of each stitch

Traditional Instructions

Row 1: k all stitches.
Row 2: k2tog all across the row.
Row 3: k into the front and back of each stitch.
Row 4: p all stitches.

Repeat rows 1-4 to desired length.
