The Waved Welt Stitch

The Waved Welt Stitch uses a series of Knit & Purl stitches to generate a series of continuous wavy W's.

This stitch is an excellent choice for adding a bit of detail to what could otherwise be a rather dull stockinette/garter stitch area of a large project such as a throw or a jumper.

As this stitch is just a combination of simple knit and purl stitches, it is very straightforward to do for the beginner knitters. Just be careful to keep up with where you are in the pattern otherwise, you may end up with some wonky looking welts!

Looking to get started, well lets move on to the instructions...

Cast on any multiple of eight stitches plus one for your project.

Begin the first row by purling one, then knitting seven. Continue repeating this eight stitch pattern across the row until you reach your last stitch and purl it.

The second-row starts by knitting two, then keep following this repeat until you reach the last seven stitches; purl five, then knit three. Once you reach the last seven stitches, purl five then knit two.

For the third-row start by purling three, before entering an eight stitch repeat of knitting three then purling five. Continue repeating this until you reach the last six stitches and knit three then purl three.

The fourth row starts by knitting four then repeat; purl one and knit seven. Keep repeating this until you reach the last five stitches and then purl one and knit four.

Continue on the fifth row by knitting one then purling seven, and keep repeating this until you reach the last stitch which you should knit.

Start the sixth row by knitting three stitches, then enter a repeat of purling three then knitting five. Continue repeating this until you reach the last six stitches and purl three and knit three.

For the eighth and final row, begin by purling four stitches. Now keep repeating a knit one, purl seven pattern until you reach the last five stitches in the row. Once here knit one, then purl four.

Once you have completed row eight, continue repeating rows 1-8 until you have the desired size.
