Cast on in multiples of eight stitches for your project.

Begin the first row on the wrong side by knitting three, then with the yarn forward slip one stitch purlwise, followed by knitting three then purling one. Continue repeating this eight stitch pattern across the first row. Repeat this row for all odd numbered i.e. wrong side rows.

The second row begins by knitting one, then purling three, move the yarn to the back and then slip a stitch purlwise through the back loop and finish off the repeat by purling three stitches. Keep repeating this pattern across the row.

The fourth row consists entirely of the following four stitch pattern; knit one, then purl three. Keep working this pattern across the full row.
