The Twist to the Right Stitch
Description
This stitch, and it's mirror, the Twist to the Left Stitch, takes a twisting technique and applies it to the 2x2 Rib Stitch. The result is a beautiful variation to the standard rib stitch.
This stitch can be varied to generate wider twisted ribs, by doubling up the rib segment i.e. four, six, eight stitches instead of the two shown below.
Raring to get started? Let's head to the instructions.
Instructions
Cast on any multiple of four plus two stitches for your project.
Start the first row with a four stitch repeat of knitting two then twist to the right*; continue this until you get to the last two stitches and knit two.
For the second row, keep repeating at purl two, then knit two pattern until you reach the last two stitches and purl two.
Once you have completed row two, continue repeating rows 1-2 until you have the desired size.
*To do a twist to the right, start by slipping two stitches from your left-hand needle to your right-hand needle. With your left-hand needle behind the right-hand needle, pass the tip of your left-hand needle through the first slip stitch from left to right and gently pull the right-hand needle out of both stitches. Bring the right-hand needle to the front, reinsert it into hanging stitch and move it back onto your left-hand needle. If you've done it correctly, the order of the two stitches has reversed creating a twist. Knit both stitches as normal.
